Astro-Dracula

Horror movie sequels are always a hit and most horror movie fans are looking for the next great scare. But what happens when horror movie villains go to space? Here are 5 horror movie villains that went to space. Some were successful, while others were not so much.

The Leprechaun

The Leprechaun horror film series' sleeper is Leprechaun 4: In Space. Yes, it is set in space, but that is precisely what makes it so mind-numbingly fantastic. Leprechaun 4 is an excellent illustration of how to convert a completely ludicrous idea into something really "unique." The film is jam-packed with realistic effects, innovative killings, and hilarious Leprechaun lines that will have you rolling on the floor. Leprechaun 4: In Space is a must-see for fans of the Leprechaun franchise or horror films in general.

Pinhead

Prequel and sequel rolled into one, Hellraiser: Bloodline is a must-see for fans of the horror genre. The plot covers three separate historical periods: the 1700s, the 1990s, and the 2200s. I didn't have big hopes for the fourth film in the series since, let's face it, I'm just here for Pinhead and the Cenobites. It is always a delight to watch Doug Bradley play because he retains that chilly, menacing, and demonic vibe. This makes no logic and is tough to understand, but who cares about any of those things? The moments with Pinhead, even if you've watched Hellraiser to its conclusion, are still worth seeing if only for their sheer terror. If you loved Hellraiser or any of the other works by Clive Barker, you should check out this one for sure. Even though there isn't a whole lot of logic to it, it's still a tremendously interesting ride.

Critters

I'll confess that the announcement that Critters 4 will take place in space piqued my interest and got me excited. I mean, how could they possible beat the work that they had done in the prior Critters movies? But then I looked at the cast list, and it didn't appear very good at all. Where is Brad Dourif? Angela Bassett? And what about the renowned Danish actor Anders Hove? I simply couldn't fathom how something like this could work out.

And I was right after seeing Critters 4. Lousy tale, horrible characters, and a rip-off of other properties in a bad locale. What bothers fans is that the elements that made earlier entries distinctive and enjoyable are gone or not present. Critters 4 is a massive disaster.

Dracula

Dracula 3000 is one of the few bad horror movies that are so bad that they're almost impossible to watch. I hate Dracula 3000 and I love it. Even though it's terrible the whole time, the worst part is the ending, which was a total cop-out and left me feeling very unsatisfied. I thought "Dracula in Space" would be so bad that it would be funny, but it was so bad that it was awful. The idea is fun, but the acting is bad and the dialogue is so bad that it's almost impossible to watch. If you want to feel bad for the rest of the day, you should watch it.

coolio Coolio appears. That?

Jason Voorhees

The most well-known space-based horror sequel is Jason X. An iconic figure is Jason Voorhees. It doesn't matter how he got there. It is unclear why he is in space. All that matters is that Jason is in space and prepared to wreak havoc.

In my view, Jason X is (blog post) worth seeing for easter eggs and nods to past Friday the 13th movies, as well as his metamorphosis into Uber Jason.

While this movie isn't everyone's bag, it's a great watch for horror movie fans that love campy, cheesy, slasher films.

Conclusion

Horror movie sequels are a VERY mixed bag. Leprechaun 4: In Space, for example, takes a silly concept and turns it into something very memorable. Others, like Dracula 3000, are so terrible they're virtually unwatchable. If you're a horror movie enthusiast, it's certainly worth checking out some of the most iconic horror movie sequels in space. This may be the start of an all-new love affair with the genre for you.
