Seeing Hatchet 3 (2013)

Hatchet 3 is the 2013 horror film of the Hatchet series. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures and his rampage across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.

The main strengths of the film lie in the practical effects. In contrast to many contemporary horror films which heavily rely on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific scenes throughout the movie.

Kane Hodder stands out as an intimidating villain. The cast provides an impressive performance. The dialogue is reminiscent of an 1980s slasher film. It is witty and funny enough. There are instances of humor in the film which add humour to bloody action.

Unfortunately, the film's budget was limited to $1 million. This means that many locations in the movie are repeated from previous films. One boat house is (blog post) featured twice, and the majority of the scenes feel like they're like a rerun of previous films. This can make it feel almost too familiar at times for those who have watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2

Overall, I was impressed by Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the series. It also offered plenty of gory thrills and some entertaining performances by its cast members.
